Didn’t cost much, a mere fifteen quid
In the meantime applied for a new role
In Customs policy which would be good
Better than Excise policy I said
Customs is what I’ve done these last three years
I’d like to take charge of it if I could
After applying, popped out for some beers
Still sunny for a while, enjoyed those rays
Then went for a bracing walk in the cold
Listening to The Creation as I did
And walking in the darkness round the Quays
Mid January of course bound to be cool
But it’s growing lighter now, thank your God
